HOW TO BUILD A REAL TEAM

TEAM BUILDING -EFFECTIVE MEASURE AND ESSENTIAL APPROACH

WE have had a very meaning full write up on the TEAM MANAGEMENT –BUILD UP in our last conversation, it was very well read and great responses has prompted me write the ongoing extension of effective ways to build a real team.

Understanding the different characteristics of the teams we face in our organizational structure, now it is important for us to know the application of various essential techniques to build up a great team. It is always a first and foremost prerogative to build a REAL team for desired goal achievements ,a great leader knows a better motivated REAL TEAM is half the task done and the balance can be achieved through proper board room planning and implementations of the plans.

Strategic management also plays a very important role in defining the role and responsibility levels of the team and assist in designing the framework of the deliverable’s of a TEAM in actual task management. The process of team building is nothing exceptional but it includes various aspects of good human resource management and people’s management traits put together. A good leader has to overcome many challenges to create a REAL TEAM or a HIGH PERFORMANCE TEAM.

ESTABLISH THE TRAITS OF GREAT TEAM

The first and foremost task is to establish the traits of the HIGH PERFORMANCE TEAM  a leader is thinking should have, expertise and skills form the basic nature of the team, other than this the following aspects need to be taken care as well

Establish objective – now as the title indicates , establish the clear line of objectives of the team , generally based on the nature of challenge define the time frame and desired results to the team so that you can nurture the thought process of the team thinking towards the goals. Lets examplerate the building of IPL cricket team- every member should be clear on their role such as of fielder , bowler , batsman and 100% contribution from all of them could win the a match.

Define responsibility levels – individual responsibility levels are to be defined and the research on the dependency on certain role could be defined by learning the challenge inside out. This is part of strategy build up.

Establish communiqué – a uniform methodology of communication between the members is to be defined, no communication often results in fall of a team as it leads to lack of coordination.

Recognize Developmental traits-it is important for a leader of the team to recognize the individual support levels to different team members in different roles.

Honest and friendlier approach- being honest and establishing transparent style of leadership develops the team confidence in a leader and prompts them to follow the lead.

BUILD INTERPERSONAL CONNECTIONS

It is important for a leader to embed the philosophy of building inter personal connections between the team members, this leads building the trust and belongingness. Shouldering each other responsibilities and tasks. A leader develops trusts in his lead and parallels in the team members for them to comprehend each other tasks. This could be done with following techniques

Team building exercises- let the team participate in team building exercises, its builds trust and let them understand each other personally more in pairing events. Increases dependability and breaks the barrier

Expand Collaboration – getting them work together on mutual events, social cause, fundraising, plantation drive all build level of understanding and interpersonal relationships. These bindings’ go long way in team performance. Investing in post working activities or get together can be few of the options to try on

OPEN BOARD DISCUSSIONS AND BRAINSTORMING

IF EVERYONE IS MOVING FORWARD TOGATHER THEN THE SUCCESS TAKES CARE OF ITSELF

Organize more open board discussions and brainstorming on the goals and the challenges expected. These not only improve preemptive thinking process of the team members but also prompt them to participate more intensively. Open suggestions improve the participation sense and develops interests of the participating team members in research and strategy planning hence improving their participation in achieving the goals. This improves cohesive actions of the team.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

Training and development has been the long tested and productive method of improving the cross functional, improvising skills and overall development of the members. This not only works on improving skills but also builds work ethics , cooperation’s , mutual respect and aids better communications and coordination in the team members hence showing positive impact on the overall team internal environment.  

REVIEW STUDY

Monitor the team performance on routine basis and check the performance on the following basis

What has been achieved?

What is yet to be done?

Factors of improvement?

Time and performance study?

The answers to these questions shall develop the plan ahead for training and implementation , time and  again review and study helps bridge the gaps and paves path for future trainings.
