Supervisors are the backbone of any operations, in fact they are the most important key link between the management and the workforce, not only they are responsible for the supervising day to day operations at the shop floor level but are also the one connect which takes the management policies and decisions down the line and gather feedback and the results upwards. Supervision is a Latin word , super means “ from the above “ and vision means “ to see” so in ordinary terms it means overseeing the activities of the team.

As the name itself indicates the key trait, the person having super –vision, better than the normal worker, a person who can see beyond, who could anticipate the needs and prepare accordingly. Bet it quality management; time management or transaction handling a good supervisor juggles with too many balls at the same time.

The team is instigated to suggest and advice solutions and thus making them part of the process, being employee centric this technique develops favorable work environment and is motivating tool.

AUTHORITATIVE –this is supervisor centric approach, resting all the authorities with the supervisor to act, react and apply. Non prevalent any more in any part of management as this is de motivating employees and results in unfaith full and undisciplined environment.

OBJECTIVE –the best suited technique based on the task , a good supervisor is not based on one technique and has to apply all possible based upon the situation, this technique is objective based and assert giving free hand to worker to maximize quality output in given resources maintaining control of the supervision.

Thorough knowledge of the work results in utmost use of resources and can determine the output with given time frame. Technical expertise also helps in training and development of the subordinates.

HUMAN REATIONS ORIENTATION

 A good supervisor is also the human resource manager of his own team, he should be human relation oriented and should look at developing cohesive environment of belongingness in the team, empathy, good listening skills add upon to the traits
