HAPPINESS

“Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.”……..ARISTOTLE

By the dictionary definition -feelings of joy and pleasure mingled together”. A feeling of happiness is more than just an experience of joy or pleasure. It is a state of mind where the individual feels that “life is good”.

Most of us have been taught to believe that happiness is linked to our accomplishments. We think, “I’ll be happy when I get married” or “I’ll be more satisfied at work when I get a promotion.” We are convinced we’ll find joy buy that luxury car. The truth is that we can create a feeling of happiness right now, regardless of our circumstances.

We should rather strive for contentment, it is the contentment which is true happiness , the sense of living with minimal needs and feeling of accomplishment within limited resources. True contentment is a deep-seated sense of accepting who and where you are at any given moment

So by now we are clear what are we discussing today for quality living –Happiness, everyone needs it and is striving to go for it in all ignorance that it is something which lies within ourselves, it just need to be discovered. So here is my take on this and the principles we adopt to strive towards it.

CONTENTMENT

“Contentment is natural wealth, luxury is artificial poverty.” —Socrates

Contentment is finding joy in what we already have in our lives, feeling or showing satisfaction with our possessions, status, or situation. It’s being happy without trying to find fulfillment in acquiring more material possessions.

Although there is no one-size-fits-all program to fully-attain contentment, you can still learn how to be content by being intentional. Here are some tips you can apply today to find more contentment in your life:

PRATICE GRATITUDE. It is impossible to develop contentment without gratitude—they are inseparable. A grateful person is one who has learned to focus on the good things in their life, not the things they lack. The simple discipline of beginning the exercise will undoubtedly shift your focus back to the many good things you already have.

ATTITUDE.A person who lacks contentment in their life will often engage in “when and then thinking” – “when I get _______, then I will be happy.” Instead, take control of your attitude. Remember, your happiness is not reliant on the acquisition of any possession. Your happiness is based solely on your decision to be happy

STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS. Comparing your life with someone else’s will always lead to discontentment. There will always be people who “appear” to be better off than you and seemingly living the perfect life. But be advised, we always compare the worst of what we know about ourselves to the best assumptions we make about others. Their life is never as perfect as your mind makes it out to be. You are unique. You are special. Your life is different.

HELP OTHERS. When you begin helping others, sharing your talents, time and money, you will find yourself learning to be content. The practice will give you a finer appreciation for what you own, who you are, and what you have to offer.

READ MORE TO LEARN MORE. Never stop learning, growing or discovering. Take pride in your person hood and the progress that you have made, but never become so content that you cannot find room for improvement. Contentment is not the same as complacency.

LIVE IN PRESENT. Live in present and never plan for happiness to start from tomorrow, or when you are done with other material important things or for the day when your life is less busy .That day may never come. Instead, look for opportunities and small pleasures of daily life. Focus on the positives of today rather than dwelling on the past or worrying about the future.

RELATIONSHIPS AND SOCIAL CHANGES. Many times it seems that we’re never satisfied with our significant others. They don’t behave how we want them to. That’s often at the root of relationship problems. Instead, learn to be content with the person you love just the way they are. It is better to be contented in your personal lives but you must show discontent against any oppression, systems which prevail in society around us. This discontent will also bring you happiness for cause of others around you. This discontent is use of your expression against wrong which in turn renders feeling of happiness and accomplishment as the task is done for the sake of society around us.
